Bare Necessities

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the trees
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at them fancy ants
And then maybe, well, try a few
The bare necessities of life will come to you

In the first stanza of Bare Necessities, there is a lot of sibilances. Sibilance is the repetition of "s"/"sh" sounds. This repetition can be found throughout the piece. I think the author uses these sounds to mimic the sounds of trees rustling or maybe even to mimic the sounds of a snake. That repetition helps the words flow better making it easier to read and understand the poem.

In the next stanza of Bare Necessities, there is a break from the sibilance. In the first line, there is a subtle moment of alliteration. This gives the poem a wandering feel by using the letter "w". I thought of the wind blowing and walking in the sunlight. That was the imagery I found in the poem.

  1. This is a very in-depth look at this famous song's use of poetry terms. I like it. While I love the song, I don't think I have never actually seen the movie.
