A Sunset

There was a change in the wind. The flag, now, flew south instead of north. The day had been long and dark. Explosions were heard for miles and screams for years. Although now, in the late of the day, things had calmed. The silence was scarier than the sound of bombs. The world had set a stage. A moment of safety that didn't, couldn't exist. The sky was painted in beautiful blues, pinks, and gold.
The setting sun promised a horrific night, while the flag promised another tomorrow. Soldiers moved silently as to not disrupt the calm. A feeling of longing consumed them. They reminisced about their families and quiet afternoons on the front porch. Those days were long gone. And a picture that had once consisted of their front yards was now a crimson battlefield.
